Once upon a time…
Hollywood's goal was simple: make great films. Its systems, talent pipelines, and budgets all served that mission.
Today, despite incredible advancements in technology and connectivity, getting a movie made and released has never been more expensive or more complex. The result is an industry spending more than ever to take fewer creative risks.
this is a true story
In 2024, 19 of the top 20 box office films were remakes, sequels, or cinematic universe films. Worlds are already built, assets can be reused, and audiences trust the brand. Early franchise returns are killer, but ROI inevitably shrinks over time, and high overhead makes it impossible to explore new IP at scale.
Meanwhile, it's also almost impossible for new talent to break in. Fewer than 1 in 10 films are directed by first-timers.
1 : 1000
Scripts get optioned
→
1 : 100,000
get optioned and greenlit
→
1 : 500,000
get made and released
This cycle curses the studios, too. Debut features deliver 42% higher ROI at low-to-mid budgets, but they're lucky to see breakout hit returns every 2-3 years.
Even for the projects lucky enough to get a green light, reduced pre-production budgets mean production departments bear the hit. Up to 40–45% of budget leakage is related to insufficient planning, because fixing a problem in post costs 5–10x more than fixing it in pre-production.
that’s our cue.
We give projects the opportunity to demonstrate audience pull and operational feasibility, at the earliest and cheapest points possible, over and over, before a single frame is shot. By the time a camera rolls, the project has already proven itself dozens of times over.
it all starts with signals
Testing in this industry often equates to asking people what they think. We don't work that way because - believe it or not - people are statistically unreliable narrators of their own taste. Ask someone if they'd watch something and the answer costs them nothing - so it means nothing. Everyone's a generous rater when the vote is free. We believe a few core things:
Show, don't tell
→
don't be afraid to kill your darlings
→
actions speak louder than words
→
Show, don't tell → don't be afraid to kill your darlings → actions speak louder than words →
A choice only counts if it costs something. Picking one thing and giving up another is a real signal. A rating or a like is the weakest thing we can measure, so we treat it that way.
No single test is a verdict. Every result is a tendency, not a pass/fail. We only act when several signals point the same way.
The earlier and smaller the test, the cheaper the lesson. A signal on a one-line concept costs a sentence. The same lesson learned from a finished script costs months. We test at the earliest point a question can be answered, instead of saving it all for one verdict at the end.
It's the same instinct as the screenwriting rule: Show, Don't Tell. On the page, you reveal character through action, not announcement. At Altt, we aim to reveal what an audience actually wants through what they do, not what they claim to feel.
Every idea moves through the same narrowing pipeline before it earns the next stage of focus and investment.
tension belongs on the screen, not behind the cameras
Every project moves through broad, predictable phases - discovery, development, visual prototyping, audience insight, and production readiness. From the moment a project has earned its place, we build the story into something decision-makers can experience, not just read.
Early creative exploration helps us test concepts, establish tone, and identify whether a story truly works. Development sharpens narrative clarity and visual identity. Agile visual prototyping ensures that blocking, pacing, fear mechanics, camera language, and more get tested and rebuilt in a low-cost, low-risk environment. Problems surface early and production stays lean.
HODs and their departments enter production aligned and ready to execute from day one. Every department knows exactly where their input has impact, and where they can apply additional serendipitous creativity on the day, within a shared framework.
→ Efficient pre‑planning can reduce shoot time and wasted footage by up to 30%
→ Investing as little as 10–20% of potential reshoot cost upfront routinely prevents productions from burning millions correcting avoidable issues.
The Systems and Products That Power Our Pipeline
MovieStacks
Our pre-validated, production-ready prototypes. Each MovieStack includes script development, tone mapping, data‑led commercial analysis, and proven audience demand. Built to validate both creative ambition and commercial viability, MovieStacks allow studio partners and distributors to evaluate a project quickly and greenlight based on real proof - not gambling on a script.
Scare Science
Our genre focused framework examines psychology, game mechanics, tension, atmosphere, rhythm, and emotional payload. It reveals how fear moves through a story and gives the team a structure for shaping it with intent. Every creative choice is grounded in that understanding, which ensures the horror hits with clarity and precision.
Some of the outstanding results our founding team have achieved for partners using the same principles we apply at Altt:
Agile Production
Sprint based development and adaptive systems bind Altt’s process together, shifting development and prep from open ended drift to clear, measurable cycles. That discipline continues into production, where lean, aligned teams use tight prep, focused design, and efficient on set workflows to deliver high quality films with precision.
Clarice
Our internal creative-intelligence toolkit. Clarice helps us examine ideas, dynamically map emotional tone and story arcs, understand audience reaction patterns, and identify blind spots early. She doesn’t create ideas, she just helps us strengthen them.

Better for Creatives. Better for buyers. Better for Audiences.
It’s our aim to build a filmmaking culture around fairness and sustainability. For us, that means:
Generous profit points. Everyone earns Points, paid from pools set at a fixed share of project or studio profit. Points stay valid for the life of the project. Additional Studio Points, for work done across multiple projects or at the company level, last five years from your last credited work.
Freedom to work as you choose. You stay your own boss, free to take other clients and set your own hours, with no exclusivity at all.
When creators are supported, the work and the returns are stronger. It’s a win-win.
We’re on a mission to prove that film can be scaled as a repeatable, high-margin product, not just a one-off creative gamble
